Availability collection by WhatsApp is brutally inefficient: messages get lost, late replies arrive after the line-up is set, and the captain spends fixture week chasing eight people for a yes or no. The practical manifestation is provisional teams that change three times before throw-off, players turning up expecting to play who are not in the line-up, and unnecessary forfeits when a fixture is realised too late to be covered.
