Photographers

Document events, create visual content for media and marketing.

At a glance

Tournament photographers document the moments — the carreau, the celebration, the quiet concentration — that define pétanque visually. Petanque Life provides the credentials, gallery infrastructure, and rights management photographers need to shoot, license, and get paid cleanly.

Motivation

Portfolio building, sales, recognition.

Context

Sports photography is a craft business with thin margins and high gear costs. A pétanque photographer might shoot 40 events a year — some federation finals, some sponsor commissions, some self-funded portfolio work.

Each event raises the same logistical problems: getting on-court access ahead of competing photographers, handling thousands of frames in a 48-hour edit window, getting them in front of buyers (federations, sponsors, players, media) before attention shifts to the next event, and tracking who used what under which license. The current state is a patchwork of email submissions, WeTransfer galleries, and PayPal invoices that leaks revenue and creates rights disputes.

A platform that handles credentials, gallery, and rights end-to-end converts photography from a side hustle into a sustainable practice.

Needs in depth

1

Press credentials with on-court photo positions and tournament-specific shooting permissions issued well before the event

Why it matters

Photo credentials differ from journalist credentials in critical ways: shooting positions are limited, sometimes assigned per session, and may require prior approval from the broadcaster to avoid camera conflicts. Photographers who arrive without an approved position get pushed to the spectator zone, where their lenses can't reach the action.

A credential workflow that issues digital passes with explicit position assignments well ahead of the event lets photographers plan kit, lenses, and travel — and lets federations balance access across freelancers, agency staff, and broadcast pool shooters.

How Petanque Life serves it

The press credentials module supports photo-specific accreditation with shooting position assignments per session, broadcaster-coordinated approval, and digital QR passes scanned by floor stewards on entry. Photographers see assigned positions, court diagrams, and any restrictions (flash, drone, monopod) in their event dashboard before travelling, with confirmation notifications and last-minute swap requests handled inline.

2

A central photo gallery for uploading, tagging, and selling event imagery to federations, players, sponsors, and media outlets

Why it matters

After an event, a photographer might have 3 000 frames, of which 200 are portfolio-worthy. Getting those 200 in front of paying buyers is the entire commercial proposition — and currently it depends on personal email lists, social posts, and luck.

A central gallery indexed by event, player, sponsor, and moment type means every potential buyer (the player wanting a print, the federation needing newsletter art, the sponsor running a campaign) can find and license imagery within minutes. Discoverability multiplies sales without adding marketing work.

How Petanque Life serves it

The platform photo gallery accepts uploads with auto-tagging by event, player face detection, and EXIF extraction. Galleries are browsable by federations, sponsors, media outlets, and players, with licensing terms surfaced per image and contact-sheet previews for buyers.

Stripe Connect handles payouts to photographers per sale, with revenue share configurable for syndication partners on documented schedules.

3

Built-in rights management with watermarking, licensing terms, and royalty tracking so usage and payments stay clean

Why it matters

Without enforced rights management, federation websites republish photos with no credit, sponsors slip imagery into campaigns under expired licenses, and photographers spend hours chasing payments that should have been automatic. Watermarking on preview, explicit license tiers (editorial, commercial, social-only, merchandise), and automated royalty tracking turn a fraught informal economy into auditable revenue.

It also gives photographers leverage to negotiate larger contracts with federations because usage volumes and channel breakdowns become provable rather than estimated.

How Petanque Life serves it

Every uploaded image carries embedded licensing metadata, watermarked previews until purchase, and a license registry tied to the buyer. Royalty tracking aggregates per-photographer revenue across editorial, commercial, and merchandise uses.

Audit logs record every download and downstream republish where the platform is in the loop, so disputes can be resolved with evidence.

In practice

A photographer accredited for a Mondial La Marseillaise opens the event dashboard a week ahead and confirms an assigned position court-side for the final session. She arrives, scans her QR credential at the photographer entrance, and shoots the semis and final. By Sunday night she uploads 2 800 frames straight from her tethered laptop into her platform gallery; auto-tagging applies player IDs to 92% of them.

Monday morning, the federation's media coordinator licenses 18 images for the official recap (editorial tier), an equipment sponsor licenses six for an Instagram campaign (commercial tier), and the winning player buys a print of his celebration shot. By Wednesday her Stripe Connect dashboard shows payouts settled across all three transactions, with the licensing terms recorded against each image. Two months later, when an unauthorized republish of one of her photos appears on a third-party blog, the platform's audit log gives her the evidence to issue a takedown and invoice for retroactive licensing.

What success looks like

  • Credential issuance with assigned positions ≥7 days before event start for ≥95% of approved photographers
  • Gallery upload-to-published time <10 minutes for batches up to 3 000 frames
  • Auto-tagging player identification accuracy ≥90%
  • License royalty payout accuracy 100% reconciled monthly
  • Watermark integrity on preview imagery 100% prior to purchase
